I abide by a personal code of conduct based on my belief system and journalism experience. Therefore, I only take work that upholds the following:

  1. Abides by SPJ’s Code on Conduct

  2. I no longer host stories. I believe stories should be told by key stakeholders in communities we portray, especially when it pertains to minority communities outside of my own ethnicity.

  3. Newsrooms committed to equality regardless of gender, racial and sexual orientation.

  4. Stories prioritized based on community impact, not on social media presence or award potential.

  5. We are reporting in unprecedented times. I believe in calling a genocide a genocide and racism racism, and deferring to standard definitions of these terms regardless of newsroom ownership, political alliances, etc.

Basically, as journalists and humans, we should always strive to do no harm, and avoid unnecessary pain and suffering. Truthfulness, accuracy and fact-based reporting, as well as accountability and respect for others are non-negotiables in my reporting.
